Wish you were here

Greetings indeed! Picked these up recently at the D.C. Big Flea - something about the colors and letters and the weight of the stock, and check out those wheels in front of the Corcoran! I just love a good old post card, and these two are among my favorites.

Quoted

"The personality of a house is indefinable, but there never lived a lady of great cultivation and charm whose home, whether a palace, a farm-cottage or a tiny apartment, did not reflect the charm of its owner."

Falling hard

No words for these sentences (Vogue, November 2009). Have I mentioned how much I love fall? Wishing you all many excuses to wear tartans and high leather boots this weekend! And maybe perhaps a wry fellow, too, to admire your woolens. XOXO, Natalie

Mrs. Onassis, 1972

I was equal parts thrilled and disappointed when I ran across trove after trove of antique shop last week in California. Thrilled because, well, duh. But disappointed when I was forced to admit that there’s no way Southwest’s letting me on the plane home with, say, that big faux horn. So you can imagine my delight when I saw Jackie peeking up at me from a stack of old Life magazines. God bless her, she fit right flat into the front zip pocket on my suitcase. Next up – frames, for both the cover and that classic Galella shot, my all time favorite.

Close up and private

How awesome are these classic menswear inspired paintings, by Sergey Nielsen for Close Up and Private? I just love the colors, and that gestural approach where the artist's hand is so apparent. The whole Close Up and Private project, fyi - "dedicated to the visual language of style, celebrating classic details and contemporary looks through unique photographic documentary" - is quite something. Totally worth checking out.
